Chance tried to tell us that labels aren’t the only option for a recording artist;
However, honestly, the issue is a little bit bigger than that.
In this world we’ve become so consumed by labels, titles, and identities that are of this world.
I am of AFRICAN AMERICAN DESCENT. I identify as a WOMAN and/or FEMALE.
I mean people are literally walking up to each other and stating who they like to have sex with, within the first 5 minutes of conversation.
That’s rather primal when you actually consider what we are doing.
It’s actually rather limiting to the human spirit, the human soul.
All of these worldly labels don’t matter. The only labels that matter are those that is so easily ignored.
The labels that matter are the labels that we were given before ever setting soul to this earth.
Father, mother, brother, sister...
What is your name?
What is your God given name?
Let that be your label.
Forget taking on a worldly label.
I want to know what’s inside.
If we build our identities on being black, or being a woman, then what’s left when you’re not brown enough for the black, or when you’re not feminist enough to be a female?
